Rate the Hobby
I try hobbies so you don’t have to.
I consider myself an avid hobby-tryer and novice website designer (see how I figured it out below 🤦♀️). I like taking on hobbies until I learn they are more fun to try than to keep.
In 2021, I noticed I have the tendency to try new hobbies only to forsake them within a week or two. Here is my journey as a hobbyist, critic, and drifter.
That’s where Rate the Hobby comes in. I try hobbies and rate them based on a very scientific rubric you read more about here.
If you have a hobby you’d like to try but would like someone to rate first, feel free to Request a Hobby. Happy Hobbying!
How’d you do it, Rachael?
Figure out how to create a website
Google “How to have a website,” which took me here.
I didn’t like those instructions so I Did A Google again for “How to have a website.”
I went with this article instead through Business News Daily.
I realize that was for small businesses, but I figured I’d dream big and I didn’t want to do anymore Googles. I’ll follow these instructions and see where it leads.
Get a domain
I already knew I wanted my domain to be ratethehobby.com
I decided to host through SquareSpace. GoDaddy was another option but I think what they did in Dec 2020 was in pretty bad taste. Take that PR department.
When I went through SquareSpace, I started by doing the “Get Started” button at the top. This seemed like the easiest way to go for a newb like me.
From there, I registered my domain and got a SquareSpace subscription as well.
Website design
At this point, I assumed all that was left was website design. I used a template, and I may or may not change it up later. We’ll see if this tasks turns into a hobby. I’ll update this page as I see fit!
I made sure to create various pages: The Hobbies (a blog), The Ratings (the rubric), and The Process, and of course, Request a Hobby (a contact page)
The rest is really going to be trial and error! So stay tuned.
